From Mater’s founding in Copenhagen in 2006, the ambition was to inspire a global design audience and engage people in sustainable thinking. They use cutting-edge technology in production allowing them to transform waste materials into furniture from sustainable materials like recycled aluminum, harvesting mango wood, old fishing nets, and their lasted introduction to their patented material Matek which explores coffee shells, wood waste, and biodegradable plastic. Through their use of Matek, they are able to have a material that is decomposable by living organisms in the same way as wood or any other natural material.
